Hokulele is proud of our teammates Su Boone, Teddy Gray, Kila Vare-Nixon, and Hoang Pham who have all earned spots on the United States Dragon Boat Federation’s (USDBF) Team USA this year and will be competing in the IDBF World Nations Championship 2017 on Lake Dianchi near Kunming, China, October 18-22nd.  All are exceptional paddlers, have trained long and hard, and are ready to perform for USDBF Team USA.

For those wishing to contribute to the paddler’s travel and other expenses related to the IDBF World Nations Championships 2017 in China you can donate via PayPal to:  This email address is being protected from spambots. Su will paddle on Premier Women and Senior A Mixed crews, and Teddy and Kila on Senior A Women and Senior A Mixed crews.  This will be the first international competition for all three ladies as part of USDBF Team USA and they are the first women selected from a Texas paddling club to represent the United States in the IDBF World Nations Championships.

Hoang, a veteran on USDBF Team USA and 3-time Gold Medal winner, has again earned a spot on the Men’s Premier Open crew.  Kunming will be his 5th time to represent the United States in IDBF World Championships, previously competing in 2011 at Tampa, Florida, USA; in 2013 at Szeged, Hungary; in 2014 at Ravena, Italy; and in 2015 at Welland, Canada.  His Gold Medals were won at Szeged, Ravena, and Welland.  Hoang, has recently taken over the head coaching duties for Team Hokulele.

The success of our paddlers is the result of their own talent and determination along with strong coaching from Hau Pham over the past few years.  Hau, Hoang’s brother, also competed for USDBF Team USA in 2015.

Hokulele, meaning “shooting star” in Hawaiian, seems particularly appropriate in the case of Su, Teddy, Kila, and Hoang.  We wish you and USDBF Team USA great success in Kunming!
